▍There is no need to give gifts to get things done in Taiwan

A:It's the first time I have applied for documents in Taiwan. Someone told me that giving gifts or relying on connections can speed up the process. Is that true?

B:No. In Taiwan, when applying for a residence permit, as long as you submit all the required documents and meet eligibility requirements the application is processed according to the law.

A:So, I don't need to pay a bribe or get someone to help me?

B:That's right! Just remember 3 principles:

•You do not need to give gifts to government officials.

•You do not need to use personal connections or influence.

•You do not need to pay extra to speed up the process.

A:What if someone says they can help fast-trackmy application or speed up the approval process?

B:Beware! If someone asks for favors in exchange for helping with document applications or government subsidy applications, it could involve illegal actions or be a scam.
