▍Beware hantavirus syndrome
A new confirmed case of hantavirus syndrome was recently reported. The patient sought medical attention after developing a fever, headache, loss of appetite and diarrhea. Hantavirus is a zoonotic disease transmitted by rodents. Humans become infected by inhaling or coming into contact with dust or objects contaminated with rodent excreta, or through rodent bites. To reduce the risk of infection, take the following rodent control measures:
•Keep your immediate environment clean and do not leave food exposed
•Seal or block holes in walls and any other potential entry points for rodents
•Properly dispose of kitchen waste and garbage to prevent rodents from foraging for food
If any rodent-related health risks are identified, call the 1922 Communicable Disease Reporting and Consultation Hotline. If you require interpretation services, call the 1955 Hotline.
