Recently, reports alleging a foreign worker caught and ate a black-faced spoonbill have led to widespread public discussion. Although experts later confirmed that the bird in the photo was a white-breasted waterhen it is important to be aware of the following:
•Capturing, slaughtering, or consuming most wild animals is illegal and can result in a fine of NT$60,000-NT$300,000
•Hunting protected species can result in criminal liability and a fine of NT$200,000-NT$1,000,000
•The black-faced spoonbill is a category 1 protected species and catching, breeding, selling, or eating the birds is strictly prohibited
