▍Drunk driving can result in not only a fine but also being deported
Peter is a foreign worker who works in Taiwan. One day after “drinking a few cans of beer,” he was driving his scooter with a friend on the back when he accidentally swiped a car. When the police arrived, they made Peter take a breathalyzer test which showed his Breath Alcohol Concentration (BAC) to be 0.53 milligrams per liter.
•In Taiwan it is illegal to drive a vehicle with a BAC in excess of 0.25 milligrams per liter. Those in violation face a maximum of three years in jail and a fine of NT$300,000.
•If a court finds you guilty and the violation is considered a serious infraction, your work permit will be revoked and you will be repatriated to your home country, forfeiting the right to work in Taiwan.
Be aware
Regardless of whether you are returning to a dormitory, taking a friend home or the journey is just a short distance, “drunk driving” is a crime with serious consequences
