▍Health risks from air pollution

Air pollution can have a serious impact on health and the following groups of people need to pay particular attention:

Children:Children inhale more pollutants than adults because they are smaller and breath at a faster rate. As a result, they are more susceptible to developing diseases such as asthma, allergic dermatitis, and rhinitis

Pregnant women:Air pollution can lead to premature birth, low fetal weight, or miscarriages. It also increases the risk of asthma in infants

Highly exposed workers:Workers with long-term exposure to polluted environments have a higher risk of respiratory system damage. Individuals with chronic diseases, need to be particularly careful as prolonged exposure can also increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer

Seniors:Air pollution is more likely to cause acute respiratory diseases in seniors with weakened immune systems. This can lead to complications, resulting in longer treatment times and higher medical costs

When air pollution is reported as severe, at risk individuals should reduce outdoor activities and wear a mask to lower related health risks
