The punishments for hit and run accidents are severe

Whether you are driving a car, motor bike or electric bicycle, if you are involved in a traffic accident remember:

•Remain at the scene

•Check if anyone was injured

•Call the police and wait for them to arrive

If you are involved in an accident and leave the scene you could be charged with hit and run.

According to the Criminal Code, when a driver is involved in a traffic accident that causes injury and flees the scene the relevant penalty is a maximum of 5 years in jail; If someone dies or is severely injured and a driver flees the scene the penalty is a maximum of 7 years in jail.
