▎What to do in the event of a severed finger

In some cases an occupational injury or accident can lead to a severed finger. However, with advances in medicine if the correct emergency response measures are followed the chances of the severed digit being reattached are greatly increased

•Keep the severed finger clean, rinse it in saline solution and wrap it in clean gauze

•Place in a waterproof plastic bag and seal. Do not place the finger in water

•Place the plastic bag in ice water (do not place the severed finger directly in water or in contact with ice 

•Seek immediate medical treatment

Remember, in the event of an accident remain calm and call an ambulance as soon as possible to reduce the impact of the injury
