▎Live-in foreign workers injured at work are covered by occupational accident insurance

When I took grandpa to hospital I was hit by a car and my leg was broken. Now I’m not only unable to work and make money I also have to pay expensive medical fees. Is it possible to find insurance that will help cover these costs?

In Taiwan, it is compulsory for all live-in care workers to be covered by occupational accident insurance. As such, if a foreign worker is injured while looking after a care recipient, he or she can claim occupational accident insurance benefits. In addition, because employers are required, as per the terms of the labor contract, to provide foreign workers with commercial accident insurance, if a foreign worker is in an accident he or she can also apply for commercial accident insurance benefits.

Occupational accident insurance

•Injury or sickness benefits-These supplementary payments are made when an individual is unable to work normally and earn a salary as the result of an occupational accident

•Medical benefits-This covers various medical costs when an individual suffers an occupational injury or sickness and has to seek medical treatment.

※In the event of a severe occupational accident that leaves a foreign worker disabled or dead related compensatory benefits are also available

Commercial accident insurance

Based on different insurance regulations, foreign workers can apply for compensation to cover accident medical costs (including ward fees, miscellaneous medical fees, surgical insurance etc.),  disability or death
