The Minister of Labor, Hsu Ming-Chun, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Industrial Development Yang Chi-Ching, Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan, visited the Nan Ya Printed Circuit Board Corporation today (2nd) for a fact finding mission for assuring the food provided by Nan Ya for the migratory workers are safe and healthy as required and the kitchen waste has been properly treated. This will be necessary for the prevention of the African Swine Fever. They also reminded the migratory workers of not importing or buying illegally prepared pork products or they will be punished. Minister Hsu took this opportunity to release face masks to the migratory workers and greeted them for a nice and safe Mid-Autumn Festival. Mayor Cheng also urged them to work hand-in-hand with the central government in fighting African Swine Fever.
According to Minister Hsu, the government has raided a number of firms dealing with pork products from questionable sources. These products carried the African Swine Fever. She specifically told Nan Ya and its migratory workers not to violate the applicable laws for regulating the import of meat products or they will be liable for punishment with a prison term of up to 7 years and a fine of up to NT$3,000,000. On receiving mailed parcels of meat products from relatives in infected areas, migratory workers should surrender the products to the animal quarantine and inspection authorities for incineration. Those who violate this law shall be liable to a fine of up to NT$150,000. If punished, the migratory worker concerned shall also be convicted of defying Article 73-6 of the “Employment Service Act” in materiality thereby his or her employment permit shall be revoked and ordered to depart by a designated deadline. Employer and placement agencies shall particularly remind the migratory workers not to attempt to violate the law.
  The Ministry of Labor has unveiled the fact finding visit and education program with immediate effect to factories with more than 50 migratory workers from Vietnam under their employment. The visits will be focused on the proper treatment of the foreign workers by the employers in their daily lives and the attention to food hygiene for the workers. Employers shall not provide meat products from questionable sources. Employers shall also provide education for the migrant workers in fighting African Swine Fever and assure that no kitchen waste could be used as feeds for pig farming, Minister Hsu went further. In addition, Minister Hsu also demanded the placement agencies to provide education to the employers and the migrant workers in matters pertinent to the African Swine Fever. Employees of the placement agencies shall never sell pork products from questionable sources to the migrant workers and list the education and training programs on the prevention of African Swine Fever as an item of evaluation for the year.
Minister Hsu reiterated and reminded the friends of migrant workers to call the 1955 hotline for any questions pertinent to the African Swine Fever. The Ministry of Labor also provided information on the prevention of African Swine Fever at “LINE@移點通,” “1955 FB Page,” “Cross-Border Labor Right Website” and radio broadcast in several languages to educate the migrant workers in their respective native languages and hope that they could work safely and peacefully in Taiwan and prevent any possible intrusion of the African Swine Fever with our concerted efforts.
