The Workforce Development Agency of the Ministry of Labor explained that a family-caretaker from Indonesia, Cindy (A.K.A.), walked her caretaker in a wheelchair to the park to rehabilitate as usual, on the way home, Cindy met a car running with a red light, in order to protect her ward, she was too late to dodge, she was hit by the car and fell into a coma. She needed surgery and long-term rest. Although she had medical assistance for health insurance, she still had to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical expenses.
Before she get the compensation for the accident, she and her family in Indonesia were under great financial pressure while she is lying on bed.
Fortunately, the Ministry of Labor immediately provided NTD 100,000 of financial aid to give Cindy the most significant help.

-Provide financial aid to help foreign migrants temporarily ease their financial burden
The Workforce Development Agency said that in order to assist foreign workers who were suffering from certain accidents, such as personal injury, occupational disasters, general injuries and inability to work, death …etc., timely financial assistance is provided.
Based on humanitarian considerations, the Ministry of Labor grants a maximum of NT$10,000 per person per case. In order to help migrant workers overcoming their economic difficulties, if the case is determined by the Ministry of Labor as special circumstances, the amount of subsidy will be determined on a case-by-case basis, each case will be granted a maximum of NT$100,000 per person.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Labor, the number of migrant workers who come to Taiwan has increased year by year. The number of applications for accidental or injured migrant workers has also increased year by year. From Year 2016 to 2017, about 45-50 applications have been filed, and Year 2018 applications have exceeded 70 cases.

It’s good to have insurance for foreign workers.
The Workforce Development Agency reminds employers that although the financial aid can temporarily help migrant workers get through their difficulties, it is more important that employers should legally apply for migrant worker’s social insurance such as National Health Insurance or labor insurance. In the event of an accident, foreign workers may be given protection and reduce their burden.
